SF&F News Highlights - January 2003

The
Thunderbirds film cast is getting filled
out now with the addition of Bill Paxton
as Jeff Tracy, according to the BBC.
The live action version of classic puppet SF series Thunderbirds
is definitely going ahead as a fanily movie rather than the earlier
suggested adult film. And quite right too!

Jennifer
Garner is certainly not being idle. Co-starring as Elektra
in the upcoming Daredevil with Ben
Affleck and now back to filming Alias, as soon as that finishes
in April, she'll start filming on 13 Going
on 30. The film is about a 13 year old who wants to be popular
and changes into a 30 year old while hiding in a wardrobe (closet)
during a party. Alias will probably
get another series, so possibilities of a film version are likely
still well in the future. The current series has significant plot
movements that lead to the whole big secret being let out - and
all the interesting character developments that can be played with
as a result.

The
BBC
reports on a Total Film magazine poll to choose who might play James
Bond after Pierce Brosnan does
his next and possibly last Bond. Jude Law
got 28% of the vote, edging out Ewan McGregor
by 2%. Another 2% less was Christian Bale.
Great actors all and at least one of them would, in our opinion,
make a good Bond. But further down this particular popularity list
is Clive Owen (see picture) who is
our favourite. See him in action as The Driver in the BMW
films.

Get
your Romulan ale here! Or do you prefer Klingon Export? Perhaps
Ferengi Eelwasser is your tipple? According to icLiverpool,
if you visit the Star
Trek Adventure in Hyde Park in London, you can take your pick
while relaxing in the Space Dock Lounge.

Despite
being Showtime's second highest-rated series, it looks like they
aren't continuing Odyssey 5. Apparently
because the people in charge hate SF. But it is early days and a
very popular series like this may well be picked up by someone else.
Of course with Showtime being probably the only entertainment company
that insanely blocks its website from non-US surfers, we'd be more
than happy if the show went elsewhere - and then maybe the international
audience could actually visit the official site! Go here
if you are interested in encouraging the Sci-Fi Channel to pick
up the series.
