Early Edition
So, this cat comes to your door. It is carrying a newspaper. Tomorrow's
newspaper. What do you do?
This is what happens to Gary Hobson (Kyle Chandler) and he gets
to put things right before they happen. So, it follows in a line
of shows that do that sort of thing, but Early Edition is certainly
different to say, Quantum Leap (though there are certain similarities).
Gary gets the newspaper at 6:00 a.m. and has 24 hours to change
anything he decides to try to change. Of course it isn't that simple.
Gary runs around Chicago saving people from their imminent doom
- with charm, humour and wit. Gary is even moral - using the paper
to help others and not to profit for himself (though he has placed
bets on races, etc. he does not keep the money). There really isn't
anything wrong with the show, but after four good years it came
to an end. Do try to catch the reruns though - they're worth the
effort.
Marissa Clark (Shanesia Davis-Williams) is a constant in Gary's
life. Chuck Fishman (Fisher Stevens) joins Gary in the first two
seasons. Erica Paget (Kristy Swanson) joined for only the third
season (what a shame!), although actually she was originally only
signed for six episodes, so you get more of her than was originally
planned. Henry Paget (Myles Jeffrey) also only Season 3 (his fate
tied to that of Erica). Patrick Quinn (Billie Worley) is there for
parts of Season 3/4.
The cat? No explanation. Where is the paper from? No explanation.
Other cities? Yes, there are individuals in other cities who also
get an Early Edition and not just in the USA.
