With the success of The Next Generation and Deep Space 9, it seemed
like a good idea to do a fourth Star Trek series. Set on a starship
again, but catapulted into the Delta Quadrant. So, they would be
able to meet all sorts of new peoples. Getting difficult to be original,
but with a slightly different attitude and some interesting stories
dotted along the way, it gets along just fine. Starting off with
some Maquis renegades and picking up a few passengers along the
way, including 7 of 9, there was plenty of scope for stories - and
with a somewhat lighter attitude to ST:DS9, which of course appeals
to some. That they would eventually get home is hardly a surprise,
but how they do it and exactly who would be in the final crew was
always uncertain.
